The Day My Husband Got Arrested

It's storytime.

Once upon a time about 4 years ago, Andy dropped me off at the MSU library where I worked, and then headed back to Wayne State for one of his graduate classes. He must have been in a hurry, becuase apparently he was going about 35 mph in a 25 mph zone on campus. And a cop noticed.

He is promptly pulled over and notes that the cop is taking an extra long time pulling up his information. When the cops returns to the car, he informs Andy:

"You've got a warrant out for an unpaid fine."

That unpaid fine dated back about 6 months or so. We had been camping in a state park. A state park where alcohol was prohibited. We each had an Oberon with dinner while camping, and a bottle must have been left out. When we awoke the next morning one of the rangers had set the bottle on the rim of the fire pit and was writing us a fine for about $80. Andy decided to protest the fine by putting it into his wallet and forgetting about it.

Bad idea.

When Andy was pulled over, he had two choices. Go to jail and wait for someone to post bail or the officer was willing to let him post his own bail on the spot. He obviously chose the latter, but didn't have any cash on him.

So, my husband was handcuffed and placed in the back of the police car and driven to the nearest ATM at the Quality Dairy. He was then escorted into the QD with the officer keeping one hand on his gun at all times to keep the dangerous felon from escaping. About 5 minutes later, Andy had paid his bail and was off to class. With a speeding ticket in hand to boot.

Technically Andy says he wasn't "arrested" he was "placed in temporary custody."

But it's way more fun for me to say that my husband got arrested.
